Mixing is the stage after recording and producing your music where an engineer takes all the individual multitracks and balances them together to make a single, great sounding track.
-
Mastering is the stage after mixing and the final stage before release, an engineer takes the mixed track and adds the finishing touches to ensure it will sound great on whatever sound system it is played back on.
-
You can find a detailed mix preparation guide by clicking HERE
The most important steps are:
1. Turn off all unessential effects processing on your multitracks and disable all master bus effects.
2. Make sure all multitracks are the same length and don't contain any audio you wouldn't want in the final master.
3. Export your tracks to a minimum sample rate of 44.1 kHz and bit depth of 24 bit.
4. If possible include a rough mix in your upload to serve as a guide for mixing.
-
Export your mix without any limiting on the master bus and with all unessential master bus effects turned off. Leave at least 3dB of headroom and bounce down to a WAV or AIFF file with a bit depth of at least 16bit and a sample rate of at least 44.1kHz.

While analogue gear is an enjoyable luxury, the unfortunate reality of analogue is that it’s much slower than digital and is much more expensive to invest in, run and maintain. The cost of these issues inevitably gets passed on to you, the client. Meanwhile digital or ‘in the box’ mixing has made such strides in the last couple of decades that it is now hotly debated as to whether there is in fact any sonic benefit at all to mixing analogue, indeed, industry veterans such as Andrew Scheps and Michael Brauer now mix exclusively ‘in the box’. With this in mind all orders will be mixed and/or mastered solely digitally in order to keep fees as low as possible.
